| Menu Windchimes by Dave Home Handmade Windchimes My windchimes are made from aluminum, copper, and galvanized steel pipe. I sand and grind them to create pleasing designs. Each pipe is carefully tuned so that it will produce a soothing tone that is long and harmonious. The tubes are arranged so that each tube is rung by the striker in for maximum excitation. The tubes are suspended from an aluminum top piece by nylon-coated stainless steel wire. The aluminum top piece and the stainless steel wire add to the longevity of the chime. Most commercially available chimes are made with wooden tops and the tubes are suspended by string, I’ve repaired quite a few of them. The clapper and sail are both made from wood (poplar), they each have six hand-dipped coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane to seal them against the elements. A last and small detail, all of my chimes are built with a swivel to allow the sail to rotate freely without getting wound up. I take my time and build a quality chime and |
